Friends and family often ask me how things are in Haiti. Unfortunately, we haven’t been there now for 2 years, but the headlines tell a sad tale:“Haiti does not have a single vaccine to offer its more than 11 million people over a year after the pandemic began, raising concerns among health experts that the well being of Haitians is being pushed aside as violence and political instability across the country deepen.”

“ Gang attack in Haiti neighborhood leaves bodies, homes charred.”

“They were live on Facebook when an armed man stormed in and kidnapped them in Haiti. Four people, including a pastor and a well-known pianist, were kidnapped late Thursday night — and it all played out live on social media.”

But then Mama Karen calls and asks me to do a blog, and there is only one response. Yes sir, right away.
So I opened up my picture folder to 2015 and we’ll walk down memory lane together.

1 – Luckner and Ti Luc back before he grew up and became Luc. Luckner has been a god-send and a saint and a guardian angel to HATS since his arrival. That is even truer now that Karen is not able to be in country and the school AND orphanage responsibilities all fall on his broad shoulders. Bless you Luckner and thank you.

2 – A day at HATS is not complete without a walk in the morning without the kids and one in the afternoon with. Everyone looks so young. TiFi looks great.

3 – I had many job titles but I really enjoyed teaching computer skills to the older kids.

4 – I also enjoyed painting and mixing the colours from the available paint cans. I took a lot of abuse from SM and KH for lying down on the job but seriously, how else to do the edging on the floor?

5 – Another job I had, was to keep the bikes in working order for Josie, Sandra and Jofky.

6 – Magdela, Jonathan, Sandra and Dickieson loved to play school like the older kids. Now they are all in school!!

7 – Germaine the wonder cook and Joan hanging with the kids before church.

8 – Joan rewarding the kids after a clean up the yard project.

9 – Hockey Night in Haiti. You just never know when a hockey game would break out.

Please continue to pray for protection and health for the children and staff at HATS.

Keif

I loved this walk down memory lane, Keif, thank you. I also appreciate all you and Joan did for these children in teaching, helping with homework, fixing bikes etc., bringing clothing etc for them, and most importantly loving them and being a great example for them. Imagine how big they will be when we get to see them again…..God willing! I know they are missing you. You will probably get the chance to be prone while working again! I saw a photo of you at your daughter’s home lying prone while supposedly working, this past year😳. Thanks again for this and stay safe!

It is great to see a blog posted by you again Keif. I hope things will improve in Haiti and once again we can be at the mission, working with the children, you lying on the floor while working, and writing the blogs.
