The weekend that was…

January 29, 2019 Posted by Keith Wight 4 Comments

TGIF……. Thank goodness it’s Friday. I haven’t had a real job in 5 years and I still love Fridays, because the weekend is starting.

At school this Friday, the high school had intramural soccer matches. Classes played classes and they played with World Cup like intensity. JJ played earlier in the morning and unfortunately their team lost. They will have a chance at redemption later in this week. Moise’s team won their match 2-0 and he played very well in goal including stopping a penalty kick. Congratulations Moise on the shutout. Good practice for you for when you face a real team like Team Texas in February.

Saturday morning Joan, Karen and I were off at 6:00 (well actually 6:20 by the time everyone found their shoes) with the older kids for our canal walk. We turned right out of the compound, across the road, across the foot bridge and started trying various different footpaths. Some of them were dead ends but it is good for the children to expand their horizons, get to know their neighborhood and be comfortable in their surroundings.

Everyone takes turns leading the group and this week it was Judel in the lead with Anne telling him where we should go. Back at the footbridge for the return home the boys and Joan chose the south canal bank as the fastest route and I took the north with the girls. The rule was no running but both teams were guilty of some infractions. Jofky and Judel were the HATS champions. I got some great video of Joan and Karen power walking to keep up with the kids but sadly I have been ordered to destroy the evidence. Not sure why, they showed great form and determination.

Back at the compound everyone had breakfast and did their chores. Then it was a special day as everyone piled into the truck for the ride to Papa Luckner’s house. The kids had a great day playing and returned home tired and well fed.

Sunday morning we all headed to church and we had an enthusiastic congregation. Mama Karen shared the message and the HATS family singer stole the show and our hearts by sing a welcome song for Joan and me.

I am almost to the point where my get – ready – to – work list is complete and ready to start on the ever expanding lists Karen and Joan and the house mothers are creating. I’d better be ready because Monday’s coming!

Stay tuned.
Keif

If I was there, Keif, I would offer lots of mangoes. Would that work?
