‘Then, Now and In Between’ – Markenson and Dickieson

‘Then, Now and In Between’ – Markenson and Dickieson

March 1, 2018 Posted by Karen Huxter 4 Comments

September 2015 found Luckner and I accepting two little boys, siblings, into our HATS-Haiti Children’s Home. These precious boys needed us and what HATS could put into their young lives.

I am attaching some photos of them ‘then’ the day we accepted them and shortly thereafter, some of them as they are ‘now’, and some of them over the 2 1/2 years since they joined our family.

You will see from the photos the condition the boys were in when they arrived. They were naturally unsure of where they were and with whom at the beginning. They soon warmed up to us and started fitting in nicely. They quickly loved the idea of having a ‘Mama’ and would come up by themselves to see Mama Karen for affection and play time.

We quickly had them both checked medically. We were informed by the hospital that Dickieson has Sickle Cell Anemia. He needs two monthly visits to the hospital, an injection monthly, which he handles beautifully.

They are both very precious and are important parts of our HATS-Haiti family. They love to laugh and play and Dickieson loves to ham it up in photos.

Their two personalities are quite different, as with many siblings. Both are delightful to spend time with and to get to know.

It is a joy to be Mama to these two boys, along with the rest of our children, to spend time with them and to watch them develop physically, mentally and emotionally.

I wish to say a huge thank you for the input into their lives from those who are working with me, those who come on teams and spend time with our children, and to all those who support our work with the needy children in every way.

May God bless you all richly for participating in the lives of our HATS children.

Karen

What precious boys they are, so much fun and mischievousness! Love them!
I was very impressed with Markenson’s understanding of English this trip. He would come and speak in Creole to me and someone would quickly tell me what he said and I would answer in English but he would understand. Some days we were on our own and I wished I knew Creole but we always figured it out and he would always smile at me so sweetly! He understood when I gave him hugs from Mike and Nicki and gave such a big smile and said “Mack, Neekee”. Dickieson is quieter than Markenson but ever so loving! Miss them.

Oh I miss these sweet boys. They didn’t know hardly any English when we were there. When I would see them I’d say, “sweet boy” to each of them. Markenson started to call me “sweet boy” eventually. I loved it so never corrected him. Give them hugs for me please. I love to see how they are growing up and so happy!

What a joy to see the change in Markenson and Dickieson from the time they first came to live with Mama and the other children. It is touching to see how much Gods love has changed their lives. We are so thankful for HATS and your outreach to these children in need .Their smiles say it all!Just to watch them grow and develop knowing Jesus loves them and all the love and time you all give to each child .Thank-you so much for sharing all that you do and the photos of these precious children .It is all about the children!!!God is so good !! Always in our prayers. Wendy JOY

Wonderful story of just how some love can make such a difference in the life of a child, or for that matter, an adult.
God bless all of you and the work you are undertaking.
