Wednesday, October 26th – 2016
MORNINGS:
Mornings are fairly predictable here at HATS. The generator starts at 05:30 which is our wake-up call since it is right outside our bedroom. Joan and I then go for a walk along the canal to start our day before it gets too hot. When we get back the kids greet us are all ready for school. The kids all take turns praying with one of us and off they go and we head for staff devotions.
It’s the rest of the day for which there is no schedule or agenda!!

BUGS:
A couple of days this week I was dealing with varmints.
First up we have a hive of bees in the electrical panel on the outside of our house below our kitchen window. Time to investigate. Our grandsons have 2 statements that I love.
“Poppa, I have a good idea” My idea was to open the panel door to see how bad the problem was.
“Poppa made a bad choice!” Yup, I was attacked.
Lesson learned; we need a bee keeper suit with the next team to remove the bees.

Karen has an undoing problem with termites in her bathroom and storage closet. A year ago the Texas team replaced all the wood with treated wood but they are back. They have tracks and roads all over the bathroom like an interstate network. I brought Boric acid to treat the problem and we’ll see how that goes.
Lesson learned; don’t build anything with wood in Haiti.

Cockroaches are always a problem in Haiti. It didn’t help that our apartment was vacant for 6 months as well. We spray and trap and spray some more and we seem to be winning that particular battle.
Lesson learned; shake out the oven mitts before putting your hand in it.
My weapons of mass destruction
Jonathan was playing in the leftover bricks from the devotion room construction when he called me over. There was a fist sized hairy black tarantula poking its head out of a brick. I removed all the bricks from their play area and discovered 2 others which of course I had to assassinate.
Lesson learned; check your shoes before putting them on!

Enough work for today. Time to play some road hockey.
On tomorrow’s agenda: Open my bicycle repair shop or fix some benches or clean up depot or paint the kitchen or who knows???
