Let the Adventures Begin! ?

Tuesday, October 18th – 2016

Joan and I have arrived back at our ‘nother home. Let the adventures begin.

Of all the airports I have ever flown into, Port au Prince gives the warmest welcome. We left relative warmth of Montreal 15C, flew on the best North American airline; Air Canada in a coolish cabin and arrive to the heat of Haiti 32C?☀️. But it is not just the metrological warmth that greets you it is the 50 or 60 baggage porters who all want to be your best friend and “help” with you bags. And everyone knows or thinks they know who you are meeting. Not! But we are experienced travelers and found all our 10 hockey bags of loot for the orphanage, our transportation arrived and we headed to HATS.

We had the privilege of travelling with Barb Gagne, also from Montreal, who was bring emergency supplies to her friends with Recreation Haiti who suffered substantial Hurricane Matthew damage to their operation just north of the capital.

Traffic in and around Port was the worst I have ever seen it. Gridlock on a Montreal scale!
I was glad I was not driving.

We eventually arrived at the HATS compound and words cannot describe the warmth of that greeting. The kids sang and danced and hugged and yelled and stepped aside to let the house mothers do the same. Wow. We missed these guys and are looking forward to spending the next few weeks with them.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Good Night??
~Keith
