Construction, exciting times at HATS-Haiti

Construction, exciting times at HATS-Haiti

August 23, 2016 Posted by Karen Huxter No Comments

Many have requested information on construction at the mission and as to how Ti Fi is doing.

Construction, construction and more construction. Exciting times at HATS-Haiti.
The mission ‘Hands Across The Sea – Haiti’ has construction happening on the compound of the Administration/Orphanage and also on the compound of the HATS school IMKH. Exciting indeed.

The apartment for missionary support staff has gone as far as possible on the funds that were raised. Luckner, as usual, has done a phenomenal job in charge of both construction projects. In order to complete the apt more funds will need to be raised first. We need doors, windows, cupboards, sinks, furniture, etc to complete the project.

The HATS school, IMKH, was in need of three additional classrooms to make it complete and able to offer all grades to reach graduation in Haiti. For several years HATS has been sending our students to attend schools outside the mission in order to complete grades 11, 12 and 13. This was not the best thing for anyone but it was all we could do. Last year we educated our grade 11 students onsite by using the school library/ book storage room temporarily. Thanks to the construction, that is happening at this time, next month, September, we will be educating our grade 12 students at HATS as well. Next September 2017 we will be keeping our students on site for their final year of schooling. Luckner is overseeing the construction of the three classrooms for our secondary students. At this time we have had sufficient funds raised to do the shell of all three classrooms. Luckner says he will do his best to have one classroom operable in Sept for our grade 12 students. For this year our grade 11 students will continue to use the book room. We are presently in the process of seeking funds to be able to finish the construction of the school hoping to have all three classrooms completed and in operation in Sept 2017 holding grades 11, grade 12 and grade 13.

Seeing the school construction happening and knowing that we are nearing the end of the actual construction of classrooms at IMKH is a very happy and exciting time.

Ti Fi
Ti Fi is doing better but is still unable to stand up, sit up or walk on her own. She, however, is very interested in what is going on and now wants to be a part of it. Beate and Heather have done an amazing amount of work with her and have seen her come from ‘not much interest in anything around her’ to ‘being alive and very interested in everything again’. They were leading by example and hoping the children, young and older ones, would follow suit.

Thank you for all your prayer support for this young lady.

Many thanks to all our supporters for all means of support. A huge thank you to all who have helped with the fundraising to allow the apartment and the school to move ahead and get both underway.

Blessings everyone.
Karen
