Hello From HOT HATS-Haiti!
Welcome back from the children inside the mission compound

Hello From HOT HATS-Haiti!

August 11, 2016 Posted by Karen Huxter 2 Comments

Hello, not from Canada this time, from the sauna at HATS-Haiti.

It feels like a sauna here right now with no break whatsoever other than to get hotter and wetter at times. Aw, life in Haiti. In spite of being wet these days from the top of my head to the soles of my feet constantly it is good to be back home.

I was one very popular mama upon arrival back at the mission. Wow, the two littlest ones, Dickieson and Magdala, were stuck to me like velcro. They continued to look up at me and say “Mama! Mama!”.

The children are all growing beautifully. At the moment they are glad to be out of school until September.

Everyone here was glad to have me back and no one wants me to leave again, but leave for another period I must. I must obey the rules of Canada to keep health care for myself and my darling boy.

The day I arrived home we jumped back into our routine with an afternoon walk by the canal, complete with treats and fun play time. Such delight on the faces of all the children to have mama back and to, once again, follow our routine.

We, of course, did not have Ti Luc or Ti Fi walking with us which made things different. Children and employees alike were disappointed when I drove on site without Ti Luc. He, however, has been enjoying himself with good friends, Emma and Don, and family, Don and Lila, in Newfoundland. This week he is sporting a cast on his right arm due to a tumble while playing soccer. He probably sees it as a trophy. I will enclose a photo received from Emma yesterday.

Ti Fi has been slowly improving since my arrival back, as we have been spending valuable time together. Now with Beate and Heather here also, she is receiving even more loving attention, and I am thrilled seeing the results. Now how to keep the improvements going when we have to leave again?

Construction, under the direction of Luckner is continuing on both mission compounds – School, classrooms for three secondary classes, and on Admin/Orphanage compound – apartment for needed volunteer workers. Beate and Heather were delighted seeing all that is happening on site.

Several of our regular readers have contacted me asking why all the photos are now at the end of the blog. Some said they find reading it less interesting due to lack of photos throughout. If you have a preference – the photos throughout (old way) or all the photos at the end in an Image Gallery (new way) please let me know. We can do it either way but I would like to hear from you – the readers. See below from Lynn, our HATS website administrator:

Our blog posts are now using a feature called “Image Gallery”. This means the images all show together at the end of the blog in small square or rectangle mosaic. When you click on any photo in the mosaic, the image gallery will open up. In the image gallery view you can easily click through all the photos using the right or left arrows. When viewing images in the gallery they show as full size and include the caption if one has been provided. As an added benefit of the gallery feature, you can easily add comments to each image if you have something to share. Fun!

Check out the gallery feature with the pictures below and let me, Karen, know what you think please at karen.huxter@hatshaiti.org. Thanks.

~Karen

Love the photos! Love the sign on the gate from the employees to you and the one from the kids also!
I was thinking that Ti Luc’s cast might help his arm from flinging out and if not it would be a deadly weapon for sure with it on! He doesn’t seem bothered by it. He is one tough little boy!
